The good news: the vintages of Olivier B. are available once again this fall on Gargariste.com after being sucked up by wine lovers the last two years on the world’s largest e-mail wine store, owing to the smooth fruit-forward red vintage Amidyves, which is a flat-out supreme quality/price purchase, here in the Vaucluse and in the states.
For a glance at the French winemaker’s outré sartorial style, flash onto the Facebook page here of the internet wine store, founded by Jon Rimmerman, who struck a pose this month with Olivier B. at his salon-like wine room in Villes sur Auzon under the gaze of Mont Ventoux. The Seattle-based Rimmerman was on a summer wine tasting and buying sejour in France with his family.
Return customers from Holland in the wine salon of Olivier B.
Take notice of the African straw hat from which his head is rarely separated, even when he is among the vines. A few years ago, Olivier B attended a benefit in Provence for the African country of Burkina and bought one hat. He returned a year later and bought five of the six hats available. A black silhouette of Olivier B wearing the short brim straw hat is a ubiquitous logo, and some customers coming to his wine store inquire about buying one.
On the back labels of his wines, Olivier B. composes a personal message to his customers.
On the labels of the 2010 vintages (photo l.), he relates that that vintage was:
the “year of a secret decision taken during an unforgettable evening in a bar in Brussels…and that the 2010 Amidyves could have been the last of a very complicated adventure.”
He salutes his clients as “You are all my Parkers,” (reference to Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate who is no longer covering the Rhone.)
Now read here how in January of 2011 the Blogosphere stepped up to rescue Olivier B.’s wine enterprise. More reason than ever to quaff the 2011’s.
Olivier B.’s wines are grown in organic tradition, harvested by hand, and untreated (yeast, acid, enzyme) during the wine making process except for a bit of obligatory sulfur. Olivier B believes that 90% of the work is done in the vineyards. Available later this fall on Garagiste.com will be:
Les Amidyves Rouge 2011: 60% Grenache, 40% Syrah (10 months in barrel for the Syrah)
Les Amidyves Blanc 2011: 50% Grenache, 50% Rousanne, 10 months in barrels
